Paediatric Psychology Sessions & Young Persons Clinics

We have a dedicated team of highly experienced child psychologists and counsellors qualified to support children and young people with a range of physical and mental health difficulties.

Paediatric psychology sessions are available to children under the age of 18. We also offer young peoples clinics, offering support to young adults 18-25, including specialising in supporting students and school leavers. We provide psychological therapy and counselling to children and young people with a range of presenting difficulties and health conditions:

  • Diabetes

  • Neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD & autism

  • Learning disabilities

  • Chronic fatigue syndrome

  • Chronic pain conditions

  • Long covid

  • IBS

  • Respiratory conditions e.g. asthma, lung conditions

  • Cognitive dysfunction

  • Obesity

  • Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

  • Common mental health conditions (e.g. depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, low self-esteem, adjustment, OCD etc.)

Psychological support and counselling aims to provide a supportive and safe processing space for the child or young person to make sense of and reflect on their thoughts and feelings and to develop skills and techniques to help them cope with their difficulties. This work is undertaken in the context of helping the young person to explore and achieve the developmental needs relevant to their age and stage of development. The models we draw from include developmental psychology, systemic (family) therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, person-centred counselling and community psychology approaches. These models facilitate a wider, more in-depth understanding of the problems we can face and help us to intervene at multiple levels if necessary; for example ensuring that environmental changes (i.e. at school or home) are actioned to support and enhance health and wellbeing. They also enable us to consider the young persons developmental stage and phase, and to support with healthy progression through this.

Alongside working with the young person we can also provide support to family members if this is required, including siblings, parents, grandparents and the extended family. Our team of clinicians are trained to provide 1:1 therapy,
family work, couples therapy, parental consultations and carers support to those across the lifespan, from birth to older adults, ensuring that each family members needs are attended to. This specialist training enables us to be responsive to the needs of the young person, adapting our communication style and approach to enhance engagement and communication. We appreciate the developmental needs and preferences of young people, and may conduct sessions via text message, email or through virtual mediums to maximise engagement.

If you would like more information or an informal discussion about yours or your child's needs then please call 0117 456 24 79 or complete the contact form here.
